Sister of WPKAW (SoWPKAW) turned 30 on Thursday.

The weekend was spent in Welsh Wales with WPKAW's family.

SoWPKAW and WPKAW in 2006

WPKAW's Ma and Pa arranged a big Hollywood/James Bond party for SoWPKAW. All gents were in black tie. Women in cocktail dresses. Ma & Pa also hired a bright pink stretched limo to take us all there and back. SoWPKAW had always wanted to ride in a stretched limo. The midgets were aware it wasn't going to be their kind of party, but were very patient and joined in as much as teenage insouciance allows.

I had to take up the mantle and promised to dance with SoWPKAW at least ten times. WPKAW would have been the one to lead the dancing, lead the conversation, lead the laughter. I hope she realises the sacrifice to my coolness that was dancing in a tux to the Macarena. Not sure James Bond would have sweated as much.

Pa has been on a very short fuse for the last week. Since he saw WPKAW's gh0stbike on the TV. He exploded on Saturday night before the party because no one had thought to hire glasses.

Ma has been bravely continuing and been the motivator for the family, but she admits her own motivation is sadly lacking.

SoWPKAW thoroughly enjoyed her birthday and Saturday's party. She thrives on attention. She danced and sang and ate cake. She even had a glass of champers in the limo.

---

On Sunday I discussed setting up the trust for SoWPKAW with Ma & Pa. I will be one trustee, Ma will be another. We should find a third independent trustee for those occasions when there might be deadlock over decisions. Ma & Pa are absolutely hopeless with money. Their idea of a budget is a pile of bills to be paid in the dining room. If they've not received a bill, there's no contingency planning. As a result they have no concept of saving for the future. SoWPKAW attends a respite care home four days a week. She sleeps over with one of the staff at her flat a couple of nights every other week. One of SoWPKAW's previous carers is always popping round and still takes an active interest in SoWPAKAW. I'm considering one of them as the third trustee.

Hopefully we can invest wisely and simply pay towards SoWPKAW life out of dividends. There are complexities of income tax and various benefits that may be lost because of any income. I'll be using a solicitor and taking advice from Mencap amongst others.

---

Ma & Pa's house feels strange to me now. It's no longer the house of the parents of my girlfriend. Walking around the house, just taking in the atmosphere, I welled up.  WPKAW would not be downstairs arguing with her parents or teasing her sister. She'd not be outside sneaking a cigarette with her brother. WPKAW's presence was just a fading memory in framed pictures of her as a little girl.

The Czar of Accounting. No Nit Too Small To Pick

Do you have a copy? by Dr H0ffm4n (2.00 / 0) #2 Mon Oct 06, 2008 at 08:15:21 AM EST
I'm not obsessively buying everything just in case, but if people have the write-ups, I'd be curious. One of the guys I met at Hackney L C C was interviewed for that piece.

No sacrifice to coolness, seriously by marvin (4.00 / 5) #4 Mon Oct 06, 2008 at 10:09:17 AM EST
Dancing the macarena in a tux with SoWPKAW is about the coolest thing I've heard of this year. Knowing that there are people like you in the world helps in dealing with the ones who are not.

Amen to that by nebbish (4.00 / 2) #6 Mon Oct 06, 2008 at 11:23:35 AM EST
