Someone stopped, and then deleted from the servers, DHCP and DNS yesterday on the Windows side of the network. There are four people who have those admin passwords in the building. BB is in charge of the Windows servers. The boss was unable to get his laptop on the network a few minutes before we saw what was going on. He has a tendency to just start dorking with things on the servers and the firewall when something on his personal machine isn't working because, you know, it couldn't possibly be his machine.
Oh, we know.
So, afterwards, as BB comes down off the killing rage, the boss says, "so, have you figured out how that happened yet?" I was proud of BB. He just got up, and walked away without a word. The boss started to follow and I just said, "not a good idea."
In the end, discussion arose of changing passwords to make sure only us four have them. Lots of money going on a bet that that won't stop the boss from using them in dumb ways.
BREAK
MSSS - Yeah, it's twins.
*PAUSE FOR LAUGHTER*
Also, she's taking three weeks to travel to see her dad, her grandmother, and some other relatives before she settles in a starts looking for a job. I'd guess by then there will be another reason to wait until she starts showing. She's crafty, I'll give her that.
BREAK
Don't remember mentioning this here before, so here goes: I'm giving myself a special birthday present. One full day to do nothing but ride the bike, and the world can eat it.
The plan:
- Sioux Falls to Sioux City via 29.
- Sioux City to Mankato via 75/60.
- Mankato to Owatonna via 60/14.
- Owatonna to Albert Lea via 35.
- Albert Lea to Sioux Falls via 90, with a pitstop in Fairmont just cuz.
Figuring I can maintain sixty the entire time, and speed limits are sixty five and seventy on most of the route, seven to seven and a half hours. With the given crossover on the route from Sioux City to Mankato of 90 if there's trouble so I can circle back home a lot faster if necessary due to weather/bike trouble/whatever.
So, we hit the point where extended forecasts start showing up for the day I have planned to use for this little trip, the ninth, and while every day around it is pretty good percent chance of thunderstorms, that day is mostly sunny all along the route.
Rawk.
Now, looking at it this morning there's a little more good news in that the day before looks like it may not be quite so rainy, so there may be an even better chance to not run into wetness. Not that that would stop me, but you know, it's better without.
I'm sort of looking at this as my last hurrah of the season. I'll likely still ride to work until the big freeze comes through, but there probably won't be much more in the way of just for fun rides this year. Maybe one more trip to Sioux City just to get supplies for winterizing and then it'll be shedded, unless the weather holds out through October and into November.
That makes me sad. It's gonna be a tough winter.
BREAK
My technology upgrade plan is still filtering in my processors. Possibilities:
- iPod Touch
- Netbook
- MacBook
- eReader
- Nothing
Or some combination. Still no real word on whether the MacBooks are getting refreshed or price dropped or what in October. If prices drop on them, my decision may already be made. If not, gonna be a tough call. I'd love to have me a Mac laptop of some kind, but would love it even more if they surprised me with a netbook equivalent that ran OS X. Something tells me that's not in the works until later though. Too many people expect it at this point, and it's the type of thing that Apple would not put out until people give up on it coming. Then it can be, "SURPRISE - WE'RE INVENTING SMALL NOTEBOOKS! JUST LIKE WE INVENTED MP3 PLAYERS!"
Or, I may just skip all this shit and get another guitar. Or do something REALLY CRAZY and save the money because, well, I do that sometimes.
Laterz.
