Sci-Fi
By CheeseburgerBrown (Sun Aug 26, 2007 at 09:09:35 AM EST) (all tags)
Team CBB is just moments from rushing out the door for SciFi Con Day III, but a smattering of Littlestar's photos from Days I and II are below the fold.

I don't have time for captioning so I'll just let the photos speak for themselves for the most part.

Highlights include Popsicle with the stormtroopers; the awesome, stunned expression on Isosceles Cat's face after checking out He-Man; and me getting a hug from the Sexual Harassment Panda.

Looks like Popsicle has the right attitude! by greyrat (4.00 / 1) #3 Sun Aug 26, 2007 at 12:08:31 PM EST
And I must ask: Who/what/why is the woman in the ivy? But the expression of the other woman behind her is truly priceless...

makes me think, poison ivy, a batman villain.

I also love her friends face.. by littlestar (4.00 / 1) #11 Sun Aug 26, 2007 at 08:30:14 PM EST
she seemed like a really fun person. Hahahahaha...

I think that she was a character from some anime thing.. she did tell me, I think, but I didn't really get what she was talking about most of the time. I will tell you that she lacked boundaries and told me odd bits of info about herself.

I'm sure we can figure it out by 606 (4.00 / 1) #14 Sun Aug 26, 2007 at 09:35:27 PM EST
All we need to do is figure out which anime series has schoolgirls in it. Umm.... hmm..... okay, we've narrowed it down to about 500 or so...

I didn't even realize that was a woman in the Ivy costume until you pointed it out, and I took a second look.

I don't recognize what half those folks should be.

I'm guessing the nearly nekkid woman in the ivy is poison ivy from the batman series ?

And how many beers did you down before panda picture ? Looking a bit lit there.. ;)

Aw man by spacejack (4.00 / 3) #6 Sun Aug 26, 2007 at 04:43:32 PM EST
The Popsicle photo is way too cute!

I can see two interpretations:

  1. "These stormtrooper guys are kinda scary, but I wanna have a pic of me with them."
  2. "What is it with dad and Star Wars all the time? sigh."

Number one by littlestar (4.00 / 2) #12 Sun Aug 26, 2007 at 08:32:19 PM EST
Definitely. She called them her Storm friends. When she came today she wanted to find her Storm guy friends; but again as most times, she only wanted to view them from afar. Darth was too intimidating as well, and she wanted to go near him (with me) but not too close.

It was really a blast having Popsicle around. She made it so much more fun.

You know... by 606 (2.00 / 0) #7 Sun Aug 26, 2007 at 05:08:31 PM EST
I would say that's the nerdiest nerdery I've ever seen.... but I've been to an anime convention. More than once.

How goes the storytelling?

This was anime as well by littlestar (4.00 / 1) #13 Sun Aug 26, 2007 at 08:39:26 PM EST
This convention included, Horro, Sci-Fi (really the smallest part), Anime (manga EVERYWHERE!!!) and Gamers. So, really the biggest parts were the anime and game sections.

Most of the costumes were from games, but I took less pics of them cause I didn't know what any of them were.

There was an extremely high level of nerdlingers, so cleavage went far. I must say though there were a lot nice looking girls present which Isocat, Ni and  MissLake also noted.

Also, I'll never see Poison Ivy in the same light, after that shot. You've really ruined her for me.

This made me laugh out loud! I don't think she is poison ivy from batman.. I think she was something from some anime. They were anime girls, they spoke to me and I only understood every third word.

I am sorry to have ruined her for you though. I thought my shots were great! Hahahahahaha....

Perfect example of the triumph of imagination over reality.

Also known as, only in the imagination do you not look rather silly with an inverted hanging basket on yer head, no matter how much care goes in to the costume.

There were a lot of those hats actually by littlestar (2.00 / 0) #22 Mon Aug 27, 2007 at 08:47:22 AM EST
They were selling them there. The ones that look like inverted baskets, with green stripes. I assumed they were also from anime or something. There are a lot of anime things that look very similar to other characters.

Indeed she may have been poison ivy, can't argue that they look the same, it's just that's what I thought she was, and I thought she told me she was something different. But, who knows, I talked to a lot of strange people, it's hard to remember all the conversations.

But, so am I, so what do I know?

Well.... by littlestar (4.00 / 1) #23 Mon Aug 27, 2007 at 09:34:40 AM EST
We had many conversations about this sort of thing. I sort of feel that you should wear whatever you want.. I mean fuck everyone else. Why should you bend to other  peoples views... just cause skinny is in right now doesn't mean anything real. I mean, fat will be in again too, and then skinny girls will have to throw caution to the wind to wear revealing things.

At the same time.. I was raised in this society so I can't help but cringe sometimes when girls wear stuff that seems unsuited to their body type. CBB would say, well she obviously doesn't have body image issues. Which, is good... But, of course, you know that many boys (as above)and girls are giggling at her, not with her. That makes me feel bad and sort of sorry for these girls (and some boys)... but I know this is the world... I would respect their bravery but sometimes I don't even think it's that, it's just they are sort of removed from our reality.. but who knows.

Anyway... in the end I think, wear what you want, but be prepared for the worlds reaction. If you can handle it, you can wear anything!

hmm by Merekat (2.00 / 0) #24 Mon Aug 27, 2007 at 09:43:16 AM EST
I was assuming she was pregnant rather than fat. Am I in error?

The conventions I go to are not like that. Lit. SF people tend to be too apathetic to dress up.

Yeah, I know what you mean about that by ObviousTroll (2.00 / 0) #25 Mon Aug 27, 2007 at 10:36:35 AM EST
yeah, a person should be able to wear what they want; but you should also learn to take pride in who you are - not pretend to be something you're not.

Heck, no matter what kind of costume I'm in, I start with who I am, and build from that.
