bleargh!

Thunderbird whine: How come, when I do a "reply all", does it insist on adding my own email address to the targets?

(I suspect it's probably the lack of CPU resources lost to the Bayesian filter that still hasn't figured out that "Pen1s", "V1agra" and "Sales" in the "Subject:" field mean spam.

The FoML's party went fine. There wasn't too much damage. Only thing: I wish we'd remembered to say "no gifts". Kids are fucking spoiled these days.

I wish the kid had a June birthday. He gets a crap load on his birthday, another crap load at Christmas, and then nothing during the dry summer months. We're trying to convince him to put some away for the future.

I also want to know why on Earth someone would give a gift labeled "8+" to a five year old.

I spent the entire afternoon helping the FoML put together his new Lego firehouse. Hopefully the precursor to many father-son projects.

Next week, it is Thanksgiving at the Sister-in-Law's house. That is good, because it means I won't blow my diet as I probably would if my wife was cooking the whole thing. (As it is, my wife is cooking part.) Given the SiL's money troubles, I expect there to be a pall over the whole thing. There's already tension in that some help, they refuse to take, other help, essentially cash from the Father-in-Law's retirement, would come with huge conditions, which has apparently offended the SiL. She's upset at the implication that she can't manage money.

After one last attempt to give her the car, I'll probably get rid of it. It's even more likely now that I've discovered that the battery apparently no longer holds a charge. I had thought driving it around the block once a week would work but the battery was totally dead when I tried it out. Anyone want to buy a used Honda Accord with 168,000 miles and a crap battery? The engine runs great.

The diet has plateaued for a bit due to too much crap around the house (Halloween/parties/etc.), too much desire for whiskey due to the stresses of life and difficulties getting to the gym due to lack of time.

I think an Accord with 168K is a step up from a Tercel with 169k.

That'll be an Accord by ambrosen (2.00 / 0) #2 Tue Nov 20, 2007 at 02:18:55 PM EST
With 171k, then?

I'll see if I ever own a car with that many miles. With luck, I won't have reason to do the extra 26k necessary.

I love that car and hate to see it go. I'd love one last drive cross country in it to say goodbye. Unfortunately, both the wife and the boss would strenuously object to the time it would take.

Is 8+ really that bad for a 5 year old? by theantix (2.00 / 0) #6 Tue Nov 20, 2007 at 04:57:53 PM EST
I remember when I was a kid I played with toys that were too old for all the time.  I mean, once they've figured out not to eat the toys and not to shove them in their nose, a smart 5 year old ought to be able able to handle a dumb 8 year old's toy, no?

I suppose it depends on the context of what it is.

On why it was 8+. This thing was a sort of car that shot water out the back. No way in hell I'm letting that thing out anywhere near the house.

Forget about 8+, that's just simply a bad idea.

Thunderbird is probably confused by fluffy (4.00 / 1) #7 Tue Nov 20, 2007 at 05:42:29 PM EST
Is your from: address the same as the one it gets addressed to? If not, thunderbird might assume that it's a mailing list you're subscribed to and not your own address.

That way, gifts weren't even in question.

Yup.

We long ago stopped putting out easter baskets because we knew they'd get at least two each from the grand parents and the number of gifts and Christmas presents was ridiculous. Fortunately, as they have gotten older and more cousins have been born, things have improved.

Has anybody seen my clue? I know I had it when I came in here.
